The bridge at Angles-sur-l'Anglin one of the most beautiful villages in France
One of the attractions at Futuroscope
The cottage is situated in a sublimely beautiful area of Western France, on the border of the regions of “Poitou-Charentes" and “Le Centre” near the "Pays de Loire ". Our region includes the Chateaux of the Loire, “The Garden of France” and another area has structural evidence of the Roman occupancy. Directly surrounding the house are the beautiful rolling hills and valleys of the Aigronne, Claise and Creuse rivers, where going back pre-Roman Empire, the first evidence of prehistoric man's quarrying in France was found. There are many excavation sites and small museums devoted to this subject. Arrowheads and tools made of flint can still be found if you look for them. There is a mild micro-climate caused by the presence of the many large rivers, in particular the breathtaking Loire. Our winters are much milder than the Dordogne which is a further 3+ hours south down the A10.The summers are bearably hot and we are privileged to the occasional fantastic electrical storm. All these factors make this area one of the most sort after by the British, (for both holiday homes and permanent residences). They were not lost on our ancestors either as they built the most grandiose Chateaux in France and created marvellous towns/cities such as Tours (now known as "Le Petit Paris"), Poitiers,Loches, Chinon, Descartes (named after the famous philosopher), etc. We can also recommend less well-known smaller towns and villages that are a must-see in our book. The cottage is positioned equidistant, at around an hours drive, from the airports of Tours and Poitiers (London Stansted 1.15 hours) and around 2 hours from Limoges which services the North of the UK. It is three and half hours from the port of Caen and under 6 hours from Calais. It is less than an hour from one of the best theme parks in Europe, “Futuroscope”.See the activities page.
